Cubin Missile Crisis-ExCom
Name of Assignment: Cuban Missile Crisis
Subject: 11th Humanities Facilitator/Teacher: Megan Terry Description of Work/Assignment: In class we were assigned to act as ExCom (made in 1962 by the US during the Cubin Missile Crisis) to research papers handed to us with no context and lay out a story only given them and the dates. At the end we had to write a fake letter to the former president JFK advising what to do to calm the world. Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why? Thinking and Problem solving skills as we had to actively puzzle through the assignment. Interpersonal skills as I openly worked in a randomly sorted group What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why? Im very proud with the conclusions we made, although they were wrong it actually left and open option for something that could have happened. How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment? Its very rare that you get the opportunity to use problem solving skills, the answer is usually handed to you and then you are told to form options on it, but being able to use problem solving opened a lot up for me What was most difficult about completing this task? Just piecing the story together was hard, we weren't even fully given names How could you improve this work? If we had more group members we would have a more diverse group of ideas letting us challenge our previous statements. How does this relate to what you have learned in the past? We had been going through history since the early days and have been building up with the common theme of globalization How can you apply this to future learning? As previously stated, this will slowly build up until now, bundling the general idea up. |
